TTS Kicks off the 2017 Meeting in GalvestonThe 30th Annual Meeting began with a bang at the beautiful Viewfinders Terrace for the Welcome Reception. Thanks to the University of Texas Medical Branch for sponsoring the Welcome Reception.
On Friday morning, TTS President-elect and Program Chair, Dr. Francisco Cigarroa, welcomed attendees. Dr. Cigarroa is the Director of Pediatric Transplantation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
He holds the Ashbel Smith Professorship in Surgery from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Cigarroa is the recipient of the Carlos and Malu Alvarez Distinguished University Chair at UTHSC at San Antonio.
Keynote SpeakersDr. Suzanne Ildstad and her husband, David, joined us for the meeting on Saturday morning. Dr. Ildstad (above with Dr. Cigarroa) presented the Paul Peters Lecture on "FDRx from Bench to Bedside: Immunosuppression-free Tolerance in Kidney Transplantation".

Goran Klintmalm Lecture
The Goran Klintmalm Lecture was given by Dr. Jean Emond on Friday morning. Dr. Emond spoke on "Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery are Synergistic!"
Trinkle-Banowsky Abstract & Case Presentation Competition
The Trinkle-Banowsky Abstract Competition is named for two of the Society's founding members, Dr. Lynn Banowsky and Dr. J Kent Trinkle. It recognized outstanding lcinical or laboratory research.

Dinner at the Aquarium PavilionTTS decided to do something a little different this year when they booked the Friday night Dinner at the newly renovated Aquarium Pavilion. All who attended had a wonderful time and were able to tour the aquarium and afterwards, enjoy dinner and drinks with friends.

2018 Meeting AnnouncementThe 2018 Meeting will be held July 26-29 at the Eilan Hotel & Spa in San Antonio. Keep checking the TTS website and Facebook for more details. As the only boutique luxury hotel north of the Riverwalk, the Eilan is a captivating Tuscan-inspired hotel just steps away from the most exclusive shopping, dining and entertainment districts of San Antonio.
Dr. Alejandro Mejia is the 2018 President-Elect and Program Chair. Dr. Mejia received his medical training at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia. He was trained as a general surgeon at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and then completed a fellowship in multiorgan abdominal transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. There he trained extensively in both adult and pediatric kidney, pancreas, liver and intestinal transplantation, as well as techniques in split liver and live-donor liver transplantation. He served as an assistant professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, performing both adult and pediatric transplantation prior to joining The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. His main interests include adult and pediatric liver transplantation, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, and laparoscopic liver surgery.
